Teme Valley Gardening Club

The Teme Valley Gardeners’ Club was established in 1989, by a group of gardening enthusiasts, who wished to promote horticulture, gardening and plants by engaging knowledgeable speakers to come and give talks and demonstrations.

Members are drawn from Knighton and the surrounding areas of the Upper Teme Valley, with one or two keen people from slightly further afield. New members or visitors of all ages are welcome. The membership subscription is currently £10.00 (2018/19) and visitors are charged £3 per evening.

The club meets at Knucklas Community Centre, (three miles north/west of Knighton), on the second Monday of the month, commencing at 7.30pm.

The year’s programme usually consists of seven or eight talks, an evening or afternoon visit to a local garden, the AGM with supper and the Christmas lunch or dinner. At present no meeting is held in January.

At least one coach trip to a garden further afield is organised each year and occasionally, other social or fund raising events are held. Other clubs or societies also extend invitations to our members to join them on their days out or longer trips abroad, etc..

A friendly competition is held each month, for which all entrants receive points, and at the end of the year, the member with the most points is presented with the Rudge Challenge Cup.

In aid of club funds, there is a monthly raffle and many of our speakers also bring plants for sale.
