Knighton and District Rotary Club had their annual charity donation event at the Offa’s Dyke Centre on Friday 12th June and both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were invited to the ceremony.

Council intends to Co-opt 2 member(s) to fill the vacancyies that exist in the office of Councillor for the South East and Outer Wards.

Expressions of interest are being sought from members of the public who meet the following qualifications and are interested in representing their community on the aforementioned Community Council. You must be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of any member state of the European Union citizen or a qualifying foreign citizen and not require leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom or have indefinite leave to remain. Role: Town Clerk/ Responsible Finance Officer (RFO)

Part-time: 26 hours per week including some evening meetings.

Salary range starting from £30,825 up to £40,221 (based on Local Government pay scales NALC/ SLCC 23 – 32 as evaluated from job description), based on relevant experience and qualification. Pro rata based on full time equivalent of 37 hours per week (£16.67 – £20.90 per hour) , plus pension and holiday entitlement.

A vacancy has arisen as Clerk to the Councillors and staff at Knighton Town Council. Applications are invited from proactive, experienced people with proven and demonstrable organisational and financial skills to partner our elected members.

The successful applicant will be the Clerk and RFO of the Council and have a statutory duty to carry out all the functions required by law. You will be responsible for ensuring the Council receives the advice and information required to ensure good governance by your experience and/or research with available resources.

You will need to be enthusiastic, flexible and community-focused with excellent administrative, interpersonal, accounting and IT skills in order to work successfully with employees (2) , Councillors, external organisations, stakeholders and the community. Excellent verbal and written skills are essential. You will hold, or be willing to work towards holding, relevant local government qualifications.

The post holder would be expected to work from the Civic Centre, Knighton (Monday – Friday) with availability to attend evening Council meetings, usually once or twice a month on a Wednesday. Invitation to Quote

Knighton Town Council is seeking interested businesses to quote for the following:

• The planting of 32 self-watering hanging baskets.

Interested businesses may quote to either:

• Tend the currently planted sustainable perennials to a standard that will ensure a colourful and interesting summer and winter display, including the supply of new plants as needed.

OR

• Replace the contents of the planted baskets with a new arrangement of pollinator friendly and colourful summer and perennial blooms, ensuring a sustainable planting approach.

Both options should include advice on a maintenance plan with which the Council can ensure a good display throughout the year.

All baskets to be in place before Friday 22nd of May 2026.

Knighton has recently won a Silver in the Large Village category at the Wales in Bloom awards. We are thrilled to receive this acknowledgement of the hard work so many put into making Knighton’s greenery great. The Town Council want to thank the many local groups and businesses who put so much into displays both on their property and around the town; the Community Centre’s volunteers for their work on their public garden; local volunteer gardeners, including Sally S, Rosemary C, Sheila T, Sheila C, and Sarah M for their work on many parts of the town, such as the Civic Centre garden and new bus stop and school planters; T-Veg and all their volunteers; the Flower Box, for their work on behalf of the Town Council on the insect-friendly and biodiverse hanging baskets and planters; Knighton Town Council’s road workers, whose watering kept the plants alive through this year’s heatwaves; and everyone else who did anything, large or small, to make Knighton’s plants and flowers their best.

The River Testing and Flag Scheme was officially opened by Mayor Tom Taylor today.

The River Teme is a popular location for bathing and playing in, particularly during the hot weather we are having. It also supports a wide variety of wildlife, including salmon, brown trout, otters, kingfishers, herons and dippers.

Woodland Tots is an outdoor playgroup, held in Offa’s Dyke Park, which the River Teme flows through.

Group leader, Toni Pettitt, says, “We’ve been testing the river since 2022 to ensure the safety of the community, so this scheme lets everybody know when bacterial levels are high and it is not advisable to go in the river.”

The scheme supported by the Severn Rivers Trust has been funded by the Co op Community Fund, with a “Brilliant Basics” grant from Powys C.C. with 30% match funding from Knighton Town Council. This covered training and information board and testing equipment for phosphate and nitrate levels, but not the bacterial (ecoli) testing equipment, which was paid for by Knighton Town Council.

After refurbishments and legal negotiations, the Offa’s Dyke Toilets are open at last. These toilets will be available to the public, and will benefit visitors to Offa’s Dyke and to our town, children and their parents using the park, and those using our outdoor gym and BMX Park.

A big thank you to everyone who made this happen, including Powys County Council and the councillors on Knighton Town Council who put a lot of hard work into getting these toilets open. Thank you also to the town for their patience while the toilets have been closed.

This document is yet to be approved by the External Auditor. An update will be posted when the yearly accounts have been audited.
