KNIGHTON ROTARY CLUB HOLDS “COLOURS” FASHION SHOW FOR CHARITY

JUNE 10^TH AT ST EDWARDS CHURCH HALL

We are delighted to announce that our regular fashion show, with pop-up shop, is returning to the St Edwards Church Hall in Knighton on June 10^th of this year. Doors and bar open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7pm.

As Rotary President Kim Smith said today “Colours” fashion shows are fundraisers for charity and will have a large range of well-known brands at least 50% off retail prices. We are proud to host this event for the third time in Knighton”

There will be raffle, with meals for two to be won, as well as a £50 voucher for you to spend on the night and other fabulous prizes.

Rotary member Chris Price added “We expect many of the people, who have come previously to this event, to want to come again and with only 100 seats available we suggest you get your tickets as soon as you can!”

Knighton Library Display of Rotary Young Photographer Pictures – April 2022

The Rotary Club of Knighton and District recently held its second Young Photographer Competition with the theme ‘The Colours of Nature’. We had 32 entrants aged between 6 and 18 years old and there was a high standard set throughout the age groups.

On April 19th 2022 at the opening in Knighton Library of an exhibition of all the 32 entrants in the competition, representatives of Knighton Rotary Club presented several of the winners with certificates. As incoming President Kim Smith said “We are very pleased to see the photographic entries from so many talented Young Photographers. In our eyes everyone is a winner!” Knighton Librarian Hannah Isaacson added “We are proud to be able to display these amazing photographs both in the main library and in the hallway. We also thank the Knighton Rotary Club for all their efforts in creating such a beautiful display from such a wonderful collection of photographs on the Colours of Nature theme”

The photos taken on the day show Florence Kuipers who was first place in the 12 to 15 age group and who also was Rotary President Margaret Thorp’s choice of the competition. Certificates were also presented to Robin Fletcher (second place in the 12 to 15 age group) Ellie Hunter (first in the 6 to 11 age group) Paige Wood (second in the 6 to 11 age group) and Rhea Scragg (third in the 6 to 11 age group). The display will continue for four weeks during the opening times of the Knighton Library which are Tuesday 10.30am – 1pm & 2-5pm Thursday 10.30am -1pm & 2-6pm and Friday 8am – 12.30pm.

KNIGHTON ROTARY CLUB HOLDS SUCCESSFUL

YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER COMPETITION

From January to March 2021, the Rotary Club of Knighton and District called upon budding young photographers aged 6 to 18 years old to enter their best photographs in the “Nature on your Doorstep” themed competition.

Rotary Club Youth coordinator Sheila Smith said today “We were delighted with the response to this event and with the quality of the photographs we received from 18 young photographers in all age groups.” Sheila added “Everybody gave explanations of why their photos meant so much to them, which aided the judges in their decision-making process.”

The competition closed on March 22^nd and the judges Cathy Jones, Larry Smart and Sheila Smith then had the challenge of choosing the first three places in each age group. Rotary member Larry Smart said “The quality of the entries was very good, and it was difficult to choose between them, but we are happy with our decisions”

Every entrant received an appraisal of their photograph and the winning entries were:

6 to 11 years

Christopher Warburton was also the overall winner with his photograph of deer in Mortimer Forest.

As Rotary President Margaret Thorp said “I was asked to choose the overall winner, from the excellent photos, which was difficult. However, Christopher’s photograph stood out for me with the atmosphere and movement created by the group of fallow deer”.

In response to his award Christopher said “I am thrilled to learn that I won both categories. The photo of three female long-haired Fallow deer running away from a stag means a lot to me as it was an incredible experience to see these rare deer in Mortimer forest, Ludlow, and be able to watch them in their natural habitat. Many thanks again to Knighton Rotary Club for organising this competition.”
